BONUS EPISODE!
Just when you thought it was all over for Season Two, we pop up with an extra Bonus track.
Consider this as the secret recording on side B of an old cassette. Remember those?
This episode comes from many listener questions all about the same thing ... What happens when we get seriously out of balance and what can we do to reset?
In these wild times, it's not easy to keep balance.
We get it.
Life can get messy.
In fact, it has never been easier to self-soothe with things outside of ourselves to avoid the sensations we are experiencing. And let's put it on the table, we are being constantly enticed to do so!
Research findings show, that more and more, some of the things we are doing to cope or soothe are actually ending up putting us out of balance .. stay with us. It’s complicated. But essentially some of the things we do that feel good are not always good for us in excess.
Sometimes learning to rebalance is a place of fertile learning.
Sometimes its a point of great power and spiritual awakening.
Join Lynette & Kiki as they dive deep on why we find our way to soothing behaviours and the principles and practices we can use to help guide us back to the centre. And come on the journey as they look at the possibility that this could be one of the greatest tasks of our generation personally and collectively.
Join us for the last one of Season Two and before we sign off for this Season...let us know which ep#'s you loved, want more of or really landed for you by writing us a review on iTunes along with a sprinkling of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Extra things mentioned:
Animals at Belgrade Zoo (CORRECTION not Kosovo as mentioned) self-harming due to war trauma
Johann Hari - Ted X talk “Everything You Know About Addiction Is Wrong”
SOCIAL EXPERIMENT-Project Soothe- In research and psychological therapy, we know that the ability to soothe ourselves at times of distress helps us stay well. However, little is known about how people soothe themselves in everyday life. Our goal is to learn more about the everyday experience of self-soothe. We hope to achieve this by inviting you to send us photos that make you feel soothed. We will then post these images on our website gallery and collect feedback from viewers about whether these images make them feel soothed too. These images will then be combined into a large bank of photos for use in future research and psychological therapies. All of the images are provided to us by members of the public around the world, such as yourself.
DOCO- Gather (Film) - Gather is an intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide.
BOOK- Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton In Boy Swallows Universe, Walkley-winning journalist Trent Dalton bends his own horrific story of a chaotic youth in the heroin-drenched suburbs that Brisbane forgot into a bright and brilliant phantasmagoria – an instant classic of Australian storytelling.
Extra support resources
Please note that many of these resources are Australian based- however their information, support and resources are vast and online. It’s also important to know that many of these organisations (especially 12 Step groups) now have zoom/online meetings that you can almost access 24 hours a day somewhere on this planet. For AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) there is almost an online / phone meeting happening somewhere all the time. We support you in finding the support that’s right for you and please know you are not alone.
